Senior Design Manager

I am working in partnership with an established main contractor who has been working in London for over fifty years, turnover circa £250m. They are actively seeking to recruit a Senior Design Manager to be the design lead in the practice reporting directly into the Technical Director. You will be working on new build large scale residential developments.

The Job

• Oversee and manage the design team
• Clear communication of expectations for design deliverables with designers/design sub-contractors
• Proven ability to oversee and amend construction drawings when necessary
• Good client communication skills
• Work on medium-large sized new build residential schemes
• To recognise Contractual, Financial, Technical and Operational risks and to find opportunities for Value Engineering
• To support the fulfilment of the pipeline of contracts safely
• Lead the appointment of design and associated Consultants, ensuring a contractual requirements are captured, along with the deliverables being clearly defined using such tools as the IRS, MIDP/Design responsibility matrix, deliverables and scope of services
• Oversee and help put together programmes
• Delivery of fully co-coordinated and detailed design proposals and production information in time and within budget for design work, procurement and construction

Minimum Requirements

• 4 years experience working for a main contractor on UK based schemes
• Architecturally Professionally Qualified either RIBA/ARB/MCIAT registered, or Part 1/HND(C) Qualified
• Experience managing teams
• Experience in the use of JCT Design & Build Contracts, with good construction drawing detail/building regulations/legislation knowledge.
• Be able to demonstrate longevity of service
